LGBTQIA+ Caucus
LGBTQIA+ Caucus
The Lawrence Jewish Community Congregation has a sizable LGBTQIA+ cohort, which includes many trans and nonbinary people. The Queer Caucus was formed in May 2024 to strengthen community ties, empower and support each other, and to forward the goals of inclusivity at the congregation. We welcome new members who fall under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella, and we are looking forward to providing a welcoming, friendly, and inclusive community to Jewish queer and trans people in Lawrence and the greater KC Metro area. We are happy to support queer and trans teens (guardians welcome). For inquiries, please contact Nixx (they/them).
On June 1st 2024, the LGBTQIA+ Caucus convened for the first time and articulated the following founding principles:
We operate on principles of consensus, transparency, shared governance and rotating representation - there will be no formal leadership in the group.
We are committed to working with LJCC leadership and have the best interest of the congregation in mind at all times as we work towards a more inclusive and pluralistic future.
