Welcome to the Lawrence Jewish Community Congregation!
The LJCC is a lay-led and pluralistic community located in the heart of Lawrence, KS. As a non-denominational shul, we seek to be a home to all the Jews of Lawrence as well as their Jewish-adjacent loved ones. Ours is a community defined by egalitarianism and inclusivity. We achieve this inclusivity through respecting the variety of ways in which people live their Jewishness. We welcome those who wish to join us in that spirit of inclusivity and in our effort to lead more connected and meaningful lives through learning, worship, celebration and the collective pursuit of tikkun olam.

SepSeptember 29 , 2024Reverse Tashlich at Burcham Park
Sunday, Sep 29th 10:00a to 12:00p
On Rosh HaShanah, Jews around the world participate in the ancient ritual of Tashlich. We go to a body of water and symbolically cast off the sins of the past year into the water to start the New Year with purity of heart. However, this is not the only time humans cast their “sins” into the sea. Every year, approximately six million tons of human-made trash enter the water, posing health and safety hazards to the animals that call the sea their home. Marine debris is a blatant violation of the fundamental Jewish ethical principle Bal Tashchit. Repair the Sea adds a modern ritual to the Jewish tradition: a local clean-up on the Sunday between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Also known as Reverse Tashlich. -
