Matching Gift Campaign 5785
Help us start out 5785 right - be a part of our
Annual Fundraising Campaign
70 years of worship. 70 years of Jewish education. 70 years of egalitarian Jewish community.
This year, the LJCC turns 70!
In honor of our founding in 1954, we are launching a matching gift campaign with the aim to raise $19,540! If each one of our member households contributes just $245, we can meet that goal. This matching gift campaign will ensure the ongoing vitality of our recent programming and our continued growth as the inclusive and pluralistic home for Jews and their Jewish-adjacent loved ones in Lawrence, Kansas.
Donate today to have your gift doubled by our matching donor!
How to Contribute
Making your donation is easy. To contribute online, visit our donate page and select the "High Holiday Matching Gift Campaign" from the Type dropdown list. You can also contribute by check made payable to "Lawrence Jewish Community Inc” with “Matching Gift Campaign” indicated in the “For” section. To give by other means, such as appreciated stock, please contact Dr. Lara Giordano, the Director of Programming, Engagement, and Development. Every contribution is valuable and we are grateful for your support.
Thank you for all that you already do to make inclusive Jewish life possible in Lawrence, Kansas. We are excited to celebrate this remarkable 70-year milestone with you. With your support, we can continue to make a difference and build a legacy that endures for many years to come.
With great thanks to our matching donor Suzanne Sherr, who invites you to join her in making a donation in honor of her late husband, Larry Sherr.
A note from Suzanne:
My donation is in memory and in honor of my husband, Larry Sherr. I am able to do this because of his 33 years as a Business School professor at KU. Larry served as LJCC president three times - till he said Dayanu - and as Treasurer many more times than that! Larry and I raised our children in this community, as did several congregants still among us. From these little children came awesome adults. Our community values absorbed and lived. The best of reasons for keeping the LJCC thriving. L’dor V’dor.

Thursday, Jan 30th 7:00p to 8:30p
The novelist and poet Wendell Berry once commented that “people are fed by the food industry, which pays no attention to health, and are treated by the health industry, which pays no attention to food.” The new field of lifestyle medicine is changing that, getting back to the basics that are so important in maintaining health and well-being. Dr. Friedman, a board-certified geriatrician and lifestyle medicine physician, will discuss the pillars of lifestyle medicine – especially whole-food plant-based nutrition – and how they promote healthy aging. -

FebFebruary 22 , 20253rd Annual Telling Our Stories Through Food with author-illustrator Marilyn Naron (Hybrid)
Motzei Shabbat, Feb 22nd 7:00p to 9:00p
I Do Not Want Your Sympathy: Shiva, Snacks, and the Art of Remembering - What is comfort? What do mourners need, and is memory really a blessing? Join us for an evening of art and discussion with local author-illustrator (and former pastry chef) Marilyn Naron. The LJCC will exhibit Marilyn’s recent art commissioned for the Kansas Book Festival, including the central piece “I Do Not Want Your Sympathy,” a triptych painted and collaged entirely from sympathy cards her family received after the death of her sister in 1996. Marilyn is currently at work on an illustrated memoir, “How to Draw a Sister,” and her talk will explore how food, sympathy, memory, and Jewish death rituals come together in that project.
