A nosh, a nibble, and a story: Haimish tales - Telling Our Stories Through Food 2026

Sunday, February 15, 2026 28 Shevat 5786

3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

An afternoon of Jewish Storytelling

Join master storyteller Laura Packer for a program celebrating Jewish food, stories, and folklore. Laura will share tales that explore the origins (true or exaggerated) of some of our favorite foods, the cleverness of our bakers and cooks, the ways food helps us remember who we are, and how food is interwoven into Jewish life even now. Laura will also lead a storytelling workshop.  Come with hungry ears and a smiling mouth. Snacks will be provided.

Speaker Bio: Laura Packer

Laura Packer knows that the best way to the truth is through a good story. She grew up hearing stories from her librarian mother, writer father, and other relatives including a shomer, legitimate businessman, law professor, and more. With a degree in folklore and mythology, she has told, taught, ranted, raved, consulted, coached, and considered storytelling around the world. When she isn’t telling, she runs venues, coaches, writes, and helps people and organizations find their stories, hone their vision and use their voices to make the world a better place. She is the winner of many awards, including her 2020 induction into the National Storytelling Network’s Circle of Excellence for standard bearers in the art of storytelling; best in fringe in many fringe festivals; other festival awards; Grand Slams; and more. Her books, From Audience to Zeal: The ABCs of Finding, Crafting, and Telling a Great Story and the accompanying workbook were Storytelling World Award winners.

Laura is also the sole proprietor of thinkstory organizational storytelling. She has helped for- and non-profit organizations around the world identify, hone, capitalize upon, and celebrate their stories. Previous clients include NASA, iRobot Corporation, Quest Diagnostics, Big Brothers/Sisters, and others.

In her spare time, Laura is an avid cook who loves to recreate her grandmother's recipes, reader, nature buff, and lover of old movies. She lives with her spouse Charley.
